Doors Open Winnipeg: Explore the City’s Buildings in One Weekend

Choose a compact route through Winnipeg’s free heritage event.

← Spring in Winnipeg

Doors Open Winnipeg is a free annual event on the last weekend of May, inviting the public into participating buildings, tours and cultural experiences. It is an opportunity to notice places you may have passed for years without knowing their stories.

Build a small route

Choose two or three sites in one area before adding anything across the city. Write down each site’s actual hours and tour start times. Participation does not mean every building is open all weekend, and a long queue at your first stop can affect the rest of your plan.

Check registration and access

The organizer notes that some buildings and tours require advance registration even though admission is free. Read the individual profile for access information, stairs, age suitability and any restrictions. Historic spaces vary, so ask specific questions if someone in your group needs step-free access.

Give yourself something to look for

Pick a theme: old commercial buildings, places of worship, construction materials or how a building’s use has changed. A shared question makes the visit more memorable than trying to collect the highest number of stops.

Keep one optional site in reserve and allow a break between tours. Follow guides’ directions about photography and areas that remain private. The official website is the best planning tool because participating buildings and arrangements can change. A favourite site from a previous year should be treated as a possibility until it appears in the current program.
